Our Creation Needs a Home
You would not believe how much crap two people can accumulate in three years.
Our shed is 16m long by 10m wide - we’ll need every inch of space to bring our Arrow to life. So the three week long clean out began… we gave a lot of stuff we ‘might have used one day’ away, bombed Facebook marketplace, and did a few solid trips to the tip. All our diving/boat/windsurfing/camping gear migrated to garage, and we flipped our old project boat (RIP Glasscraft) upside down onto it’s trailer, for completion in the very, very distant future…
As well as the purge, we re-arranged all the existing shelving and racks. We’re trying to think a few steps ahead, because once these hulls are joined, we know we’ll have only a small gap down each side of the boat. So our workbench will be re positioned at the bow, and racking on the port bow (basically in a corner of the shed). The west facing side of the shed will be left with nothing on it, a clear path for the boat to come out of the shed when we take down the west wall (in however many years that takes). The south side has our roller doors, and will continue to be the main access for the shed.
Tools consolidated and tidy. This was pre garden shed, so all the fertiliser, hose fittings, pumps and garden tools have relocated.
Jumping back in time a little, before our clean up, we were able to get a rough cabin floorplan taped out. Felix used his CAD software to measure up the basic layout, which I then plotted out on the floor.
Basic cabin layout, pre - shed clean
We later made a few changes based off this little exercise - but we were mostly happy with the layout.
Next step - electricity!!
Another job that we had always planned to do, but never got around to doing. With myself, Felix and one electrician, we got the whole shed wired and cable from house to shed done in one day! Felix had dug the trench and laid the conduit a few years ago when the shed was built, so it was a relief when that cable easily went through, and his draw string stayed attached. Believe me when I say it would’ve been a mission to get another draw string through.
Right. Shed is clean(ish), shed is powered, now we just need… another shed for all the garden stuff! It might seem a bit over the top, but space is going to become tight very soon, and we don’t want to be shuffling around duflex panels to get to the lawnmower.
But most importantly, we are ready. Now just to wait for a confirmation of a build slot with ATL Composites, and plan delivery from Schionning Designs.
The ~almost~ clean shed, complete with lighting and power! We’ve cleaned up a bit more than this, but we’re busy actually doing stuff, so this is all you get!
